End-of-School Year BBQ
Wednesday, April 30, 2014 (during lunchtimes)

We invite you and your family to join us at our school's end of the year Barbecue.  If you are able to attend, please fill out a reservation form and return it to the front office by Tuesday, April 29th.  This form provides information that allows us to prepare enough food and serve you more efficiently.  If you would like to volunteer to help serve the meal, we will provide you with a free meal.  Thank you for your cooperation in returning this form.  We look forward to seeing you at the BBQ!

Students will order their meal at school that morning and
don't need to register on this form.

No TV Week is Here!
Monday, May 5 - Sunday, May 11, 2014

For the eighth year, PWES will join in this national event.  We invite you and your family to participate.  Consider taking a healthy break from TV for this one designated week, to refocus on activities that are more academically, socially, and physically rewarding.  Check out the information packet, with rules and the form for participation and the verification forms.

Recycling at PWES

Please remember, we are always collecting the following at Prairie Winds:

  • Variety of empty food wrappers, drink pouches, glue sticks & bottles, writing instruments and 3-ring binders for the 5th grade TerraCycle program.  TerraCycle upcycles the collected items into new products, and the wildlife around Yellowstone National Park benefits from the 5th grader's hard work.
  • Used/broken small electronics, laptops & Inkjet/toner cartridges for the 4th grade Ecobuddies program.  The 4th graders earn points for their recycling, which they will use to help the non-profit of their choice.
  • Old batteries:  Keeps these dangerous items out of our landfills.
  • Unneeded sporting goods:  Please hold on to your items until our next school sports equipment swap/donation day at the beginning of the school year.
  • Children's books!  Bring a book, take a book, at the Little Lending Library in the commons area.   A great way to pass along all of those books you have outgrown to a new reader.
Please drop off any of these items to the front office, or send in anytime with your child (with the exception of the sporting goods.)  Thank you for helping support our students in their commitment to being good stewards of the planet.

If you need any additional information regarding our collection programs, please contact the front office, or look in the information rack outside the office.

Traffic at PWES
At a recent King's Deer HOA meeting, there was some concern expressed over congestion on the neighborhood streets during arrival and dismissal.  In order to be good neighbors, please keep the following in mind:
  • When you arrive at school, if the car line already extends outside of the parking lot, you must not remain motionless at the 4 way stop.  Traffic laws state that you must move through the intersection or you can be ticketed.
  • One option is to continue through the intersection and head to the west parking lot.  You can wait there until the line is moving.  We typically load cars until 4:05.
  • If you do find yourself in a queue, please do not block anyone's driveway with your vehicle.  Leave an open space.
  • To avoid any and all worry, consider leaving your home 5-10 minutes later and avoid the line completely.  Your children will be safe and supervised; they'll be waiting for you instead of vice-versa.
Thank you for your cooperation.
